“Note From The Book” It’s 2:14am Wednesday February 7
th, 2007. I guess that part of my Inspiration for starting my 3
rd Silent blog was because of watching the history of Dr. Percy L. Julian. Being that he was probably the most achieved chemist in the world and had also written books documenting his methods of advancements within his projects.
I made me think about the things I have done, and also things I am doing or need to do in order to achieve or to advance in what I know. The documentary makes me want to write more while also reading more to enhance my skills in what ever comes my way.
I have also be thinking about drawing. Yesterday I had something drawn on a sheet of paper, Larry saw it a
nd asked why I don’t draw anymore. I thought about my drawings, paintings and art materials I have lying around in the old neighborhood. Like that old Indian ink and the oil pastels I’ve never used since I received them at the old NOCCA.
With that said, I’d also like to get me a few sketch pads, drawing utensils and a few hard covered journal styled pads to Re-Begin a Hobby I once cherished.
Ever since I was introduces to computers it’s been my hobby, Job and somewhat of a career maker for me. Although I’m no longer working, Computers technology has been a tool that has gotten me great things of my recent past. In past entries, I speak of many work days, reports and things that would happen every day on the job because I loved it. It was also a big Step from visual arts. Yet it was a leap in to Digital media. Even before the Storm came I was in to what I was doing, but I looked at it the same as my sketching, Just a hobby. Now there’s more to it than that. Technology is something I love. Just like Julian’s passion was bio chemistry. After Hurricane Katrina was my first experience working in a field I loved, but yet had no clue what I was getting in to. Now I swear I’d do it my whole life.
Now I see the community aspect of what I had done with myself. I’d like to help others learn what I know and become better than me at what I know. I’m a mixed mass media kind of person. I want to know The Digital and Visual art of the technology. I also want to learn more about the hardware of this technology. Everyday is a new learning experience. Yeah, I know I said that earlier in this entry but I’m serious.
After getting my first taste of University life, I’d love to go back to school. After dropping out last semester life was hard and I wanted to give up my books. But now I think that I should keep them. Study them and attempt to learn the methods of skill on my own. I have a Discrete Mathematics text book, focusing on logistics and the binary coding of computers at some point. I am not an algebraist but I can learn. I do have a Beginners math book from remedial courses Remember! As far as English goes; before I stopped going to class, I told Mr. Mack, the remedial English Teacher that I’d continue to read and study that book to enhance my writing skills. Well, since I’ve came back to New Orleans, I hadn’t gotten a hold to that book,
This all brings me back to the Visual Arts. I have Art books that I would like to take time and learn from to keep that hobby going also. This time I would like to use that also to teach people how to do someday. I have a problem, that’s procrastination and just that will mark me as a failure. I shall succeed that someday and make it a lie. I say this now because I don’t currently have a job. I’m not In School. It took me a while to get in school when I did, Although I took that chance, It took me a while to get there, I am no longer there. Back In High School, I’d always be late for morning band rehearsal. When I attended NOCCA I was late almost every morning, those minutes became hours. I was Late for work at South Union many times. I’ve Missed Classes at Texas Southern because I was late. I was even late for a performance, I was exhausted afterwards. But yes. That is all because of BAD TIMING!
Time Alone is very important to everyone. I learned that in school and have heard it through out live, But hadn’t realized it till now. Better yet, I knew all along. It was just a rule that I didn’t follow. I have to put TIME in my schedule and not blame others for it.
I have missed out on so much because of Time. And the thing is that TIME doesn’t wait. It is I who have spent my life doing nothing while time passes. This is why I must do something. Yeah, I blog, I try to be on point with what going on with my old neighborhood. But I must educate myself before I attempt at teaching someone else what I have sitting on the back of my skull.
Man, its My Time to do something positive once again. I wanted to say this earlier. But I guess I’ll say it now. I’m considering myself a Computer Chemist! Yep, sounds funny huh? Well it’s cleverer than a Computer Scientist which not a Job title though. It’s just a Major for Various Title titles in the computer industry. I don’t know what I need to know or should have known by now. But Hey, I think I’ve worked with some great minds in the greatest field to date. And that’s Technology! I love the Digital Divide, the Community Networking and So on an so On. I
could see myself someday leading a technology department somewhere in my own city. YEP. Here in New Orleans is where I’d like to show people how to educate themselves with the help of computers and the arts that surround them. Come on now, you’re talking to a Renaissance man here. I think that I can pull it off some day.
Already I’m at 2 pages on this silent blog, and am currently aiming for three, and note . It’s 3:10 in the morning. Same date as the top. I’m not tired yet! It would’ve been cool if somebody had a wireless connection around here. That way I’d be connected to the net so that this can be uploaded. It’s wild that I wrote all of this. But hey. I can’t help it; I’ve got it on my mind.

ving my old neighborhood back to where It once stood. old or new. like I said. My goal is to build a community of self learning people. I still consider myself as an AmeriCorps*VISTA it’s a challenge to help uplift a community when you’re on that level yourself. But it’s a great learning experience. I actually Love the fact that I am active enough to write about what going on with my old neighborhood. Like a New Reporter from the Streets, but not necessarily from the streets. I would like to start a class of Bloggers. Just to teach everyone to say what’s on their minds if they’d like to in their own journals. Or probably have a student news project. A great accomplishment over all would be to have my own community center. I wouldn’t mind sharing my thoughts with NORD though. It’s so Much on my mind and I’m not sleepy. Or Am I? I think that my Eyes are telling me to go ahead and stop looking at this screen now.
