Aww Thandie, Its a Shame

Screen beauty Thandie Newton was shocked at the level of racism in Hollywood - as she never experienced racial prejudice in her native England.

The 32-year-old star is the child of a Zimbabwean mother and an English father, and was always encouraged to see cultural diversity in a positive light.

But Newton was staggered by the ignorance of the US movie industry's consistent stereotyping of black and mixed race actors.

She says, 'I have honestly never encountered racism in Britain. But I have encountered clumsiness with racial stereotypes in Hollywood.

'I remember having a meeting with a studio head and talking about a role.

'She said, 'Yeah, Thandie, but are you black enough for this role?
Is it believable that this character has a degree?'

'I said, 'Yes, I am black enough and have a degree myself.' And she said, 'But you are different.'

'I have also met black filmmakers who think I do not have enough street cred. They ignore the fact I am an actress and can play anything.'

It Never Fails in Hollywood.

Filmmakers often rely heavily on stereotypes, because they're a quick and simple way to establish a movie character's traits. Blonde women are dumb, for example; foreigners are villains, Mexicans are lazy, and blacks are great athletes. Teenaged characters are variously shown as sex-crazed, uncivilized, moralistic or shallow, and they tend to be lumped into groups of either popular kids or geeks.

most young don't notice this in movies untill they are old enough to Understand.

.........well .. I guess I'll post something else later. lol

WIZARD KELLY YALL!!
