MouthOfTheSouth's Topic: Black in Movies!!!
Why do we always have to be portrayed as lazy, ignorant, immoral, savage, irresponsible, selfish, money-hungry, and worthless?
Two movies are coming out in the near future :
Hustle and Flow & Rize.
I have watched the trailers for each and I'm shaking my head in disgust. The average black family doesn't look anything like these people in these movies.

Yup. It's called American stereotype. It happens to all the minorities in this country. Look at the Native Americans. The only thing their sacredness is worth is MASCOT names *Warriors, Redskins*. A lot of people aren't even aware of what that name means. Like blacks, native Americans were persecuted and killed also. The killers had to collect a "bounty" as proof for their actions...be it a body part, or a piece of skin *peeled back, it had a red appearance* ...This was called a REDSKIN...
Asians are stereotyped as the smart ones who excel in nothing but math and science, or the marketers on the side of the street who holler loudly. Indians are viewed as the people who drive taxis or own gas stations. Mexicans are called by the offensive name "wetbacks" b/c of how they swam the Rio Grande to get here. Jamaicans and Haitians are known to be "on that stuff". Blacks are stereotyped. Native Americans are stereotyped...
They ALL are stereotyped b/c of something a FEW people did...
It's sad really...
I Agree With That .. Here is My Reply
Here is the deal.
The guy who created hustle & flow is from Memphis and he said some of the things such as The Pimp portrayed in the movie are things he saw on Memphis streets growing up. yet lots of it is exaggerated & stereotypical also.
on Good Times there was an episode where the parents of Michael's friend came to the Evans home & Tried to Jive talk, They were just faking it because they thought that it was how Black people from the projects were.... even after they saw that The evens didn't Jive talk. They both were still doing it & were embarrassing their daughter with it also.
it was meant to be funny & it was .. but when i thought a bout it.......
it was basically a stereotype of a White person trying to act black WHILE Stereotyping Black people a the same time
It's Like a Cycle that can't be Stopped
