When I was in 6th grade Kwanzaa was the New Think to celebrate in school. It tought black people how to be more culturistic and afro-centric. It was all fun & cool. But as a got older We made a Mockery Of Kwazaa.
Thinks I've learned about Kwanzaa
Many Of the terms are from Swahili.
the slaves came from West Africa & . Places like Togo,Ghana,Congo, Gambie, Liberia, Benin, Mali & Gabon.
.. Not Mid East or East... Only a few of them were taken and they were shipped off to Euro Nations where they learned how to speak English.. They were forced but hey. something had to be done.
In life They seem to force Everyone to speak American English & believe in the American Way. Which I also think is all Messed up .. BACK TO KWANZAA!
The terms that are used Make us feel good & positive and all that...
Yet Its Something Funny to say when you need a laugh
Example:
Kujichagulia - Which Means Self determination.
Sounds Funny to Me... Just Yell that out loud when you're mad as hell!
..HA!!
In Elementary School We were Basically Forced in to learning all this false information till its just confusing. Why Couldn't Kwanzaa be called something else.
How do we know that These Africans Took Part in these Rituals?
The Menorah is Jewish.. How did it get to Africa? .. Did it come from Africa.
I Strongly believe that these Africans didnt light candles .. especially coming from Swahili...
I Dont Think Anyone from Kenya knows what Kwanzaa Is!
What i think was on point about Swahili was the Terms Used in The Lion King like "Hakuna Matata" .. But hey This language was tied to the spoken word of Arabs..
Anyway .. The Jamaican People are more pure blood Africans than us. I believe that They Speak Similar to the languages that WE African Americans Should learn about... The Ethiopian & Angolan people Didn't speak the Swahili language. We should learn a Mixture of THAT!
I want to spend a holiday in West Africa, (like Angola) and Observe what they do around holiday season In order to get things done..
Anyway.. Kwanzaa is something I don't care too much about. It's not worth learning If you want to get in touch with your actual ancestry & Rooted people
I'd rather have my child grow up to learn the simple parts of the whole african-American culture & not this Kwanzaa Stuff!
Like .. How Hip Hop is an African thing.
Red Green Black & Yellow & its meanings
Lift Every Voice & Sing
The Old Negro Spirituals and Chants
The songs and hymns which were ways to Freedom for them & is now we know as Nursery Rhymes.
Songs that were created by the great singers in our time is even Reprisent our culture
Wake Up Everybody - Teddy P.
Aint No Stoppin' Us Now - McFadden & Whitehead
You Will Know - Black Men United
Change Gon' Come - Sam Cooke
You get the idea...
I'm Just Sayin yall .. Get Real .. leave that Pipe Alone ..lol
