This was apart of his speach....
"It's painful, but we can't cleanse ourselves unless we look at the wound,"
"Ladies and gentlemen, you had the highest murder rate, unto each other. You were dealing drugs to each other. You were impregnating our 13-, 12-, 11-year-old children,"
"What kind of a village is that?"
Here's The Article I got this from
Growing up in N.O. I've Met & learned so much about people I Didnt Know or Thought I knew til it aint funny. It's wild how The older "Cool" People in my Neighborhood were the ones who Dealt Drugs & were Criminals. I've Seen How they have influenced The Kids in my time. Especially during Jr High Days. Thats when we all thought we were grown.
In My Jr. High School We had... Folks who were Fighters, Smokers, Drinkers, Sold Drugs, Had Sex or Just plain Young Thugs. and we only were between the ages of 11 & 14. Those are some Hard Times. Cause thats when the Peer Pressure takes its tole. You Could eather Give in to The Badness or Stay away.
.. Its Crazy because a few of the ones who took part in all the madness in my Jr Hig Days Had Either Killed Someone or Gotten Killed Between the Ages of 18 & 21 & The Females..Smh... Many had babies at the begining of their sophomore year of High School.
I Swear, We Thought we were grown but we were nothing... The year I went back to teach at my old middle school I saw what we had all over again. but this time everybody just seemed younger and stupider... We had a Guy, 12 years old Missing Practice because Pushing Drugs On the street corner. Buy keeping him in band we cut alot of his time for That stuff short. (practice kept him & marching away from the drugs)...
Speakin of that... it was the same when i was there. in 1998 Many of the Bad Folks at our middle school decided to March in the Drum Section. They used to do some stuff too But it seased. They are Alive and well today & probably not Too Much into Drugs other than the smoking thing but thats all.. It sure kept them out of trouble too....
... ahh man.. anyway. heres my point.
I figure that If only there was something to occupy the minds of these aspired criminals, maybe it'll sease some of the violence.
