The Problems at Walk in July 27th

Computer Ran Slow Due to Too Many Items Being Loaded at Start Up.

Problem: Bearshare which is a p2p program that allows file sharing.

Main Problem Gedza Virus -

What Does The Gedza Virus Do? - It propagates via peer-to-peer file sharing networks by dropping copies of itself in a peer-to-peer shared folders, using interesting file names to entice users to download the files.

What Has Been Done

  1. Installed & CCleaner 5 Times, It Removed 11282.5 Temprary Files. And 160 corrupted Registry files. Virus Info popped up with Earthlink Program to let me know what I Had Deleted. The Program slowed CCleaner down also.
  2. Uninstalled Loads of Software – Bearshare could not uninstall.
  3. Rebooted the PC. It loaded Much Faster but still was in bad shape due to the Items on start up.
  4. Loaded Windows 2000 Professional

After Loading Win 2000 Pro

  1. Found that Windows XP was Still Installed But Corrupted
  2. Overnight Scan with Norton Anti-Virus 2006
  3. 17 Thousand Traces Infected Files Removed. Majority of them were Bearshare files.
  4. Various Attempts to Format the Hard Drives, But Due to all the corrupted data. It wouldn’t go through.
  5. Uninstalled Norton while in the Formatting Process
  6. Reinstalled Windows 2000 to after a complete Formatting attempt

This computer will remain At SUCDC for the time being. Continuation on This Computer Will Begin Next Week.
