Here's The Rough Draft of an Essay I did

Hip-Hop's Positive Impact

Since it's beginning in the mid 1970's; Hip-Hop has been one of the greatest influences in the African-American community in ways you and I probably couldn't imagine. Although Hip-Hop has been portrayed in many negative ways, it's time that we talk about a few of the positive things, in which rap music has made its mark in the world of politics, the latest's trends even in sports and entertainment.

In the past year, Hip Hop's Political Impact has been stronger than ever. Artist's such as David Banner, 50 Cent and Juvenile have made large contributions to the Katrina relief efforts. David Banner was one of the reasons many of the gulf coast evacuee's received shelter, food, clothes and water. 50 Cent gave over thirty thousand dollars to help the Knowledge is Power Program re-open an elementary school for New Orleans evacuees in Houston, Texas. Also, Juvenile as well as with many other Hip-Hop artists have created songs regarding the governments response to Hurricane Katrina. Proceeds from many of those songs helped to support the many survivors of that disaster.

" This is the way we ball, and we like to floss, all my diamonds gloss, I represent the dirty, dirty, dirty, dirty south" - Words By Rapper Lil Flip. Hip Hop has always influenced what the way we present ourselves to the public eye. Back in the 1980's if you were seen jamming with a boom box, listening to your Run DMC or Kool Moe Dee cassette tape wearing your new Adidas shoes; you were in style. Years later LL Cool J was the official spokesman for the FUBU brand; while also promoting other black owned products. Now days Hip-Hop has sparked off a generation of rappers who not only promote but actually own self named businesses. Fashion labels such as Sean Jean, Roc-A-Wear and Phat-Farm, have been top sellers in the hip-hop community. Many of the times we buy because we know an artist own or promote these items not necessarily because we like that product. For instance, if I were to wear a shirt that I like, other people may not like it; but if a favored rap artist wears the same shirt, it would inspire a load of Hip-Hop lovers to wear and promote that particular product. It may even give others Ideas about started their own trend over time. This will continue as long as Hip Hop Exists.

Do you remember back in the day, when the only time you could see a rapper was on an album cover or in a music video? And then all of a sudden those same rappers were in your favorite video game and movie. In this day and time, Hip-Hop has been responsible for many movies, your favorite video games, TV shows, magazines, websites and more. I attended an NFL game Tournament back in 1996 where one of the team's stadium entrance themes was a rap song created by the members of that particular football team. The tune was fairly catchy and the whole stadium was involved in the music. All of those game goers couldn't have possibly been fans of Rap Music. The purpose of that was to increase crowd participation to motivate the football team to win. Just like when the bands play fight songs do for college football. Hip-Hop's impact on sports and in entertainment has been used to Influence the fans to get involved.

Hip-Hop has created a way to give back to its community, not only generating a new breed of aspiring rappers, but aspiring businessman, writers, poets, politicians, movie stars and more. Hip-Hop has become more than the music. It's become a million dollar industry which has inspired African-American youth to better themselves buy doing something they love to do and get paid for it. With that said; Hip-Hop will always have a great impact on its listeners as a source of motivation.

Being a gringo way too old to be listening to hip hop, I only caught on to David Banner a few months ago .. his music is incredibly uplifting if people who hate actually took the time to listen to it ... Great essay ... My only suggestion would be to perhaps break it into shorter paragraphs, but the message is dead right

thanks, According to this english teacher, we were allowed to write between 6 and 8 paragraphs.

I was told that my punctuation was wrong at least twice in the first paragraph when I turned it in ..lol
