Irvin Mayfield and the New Orleans public Library

I'm watching the City Council Meeting from August 23rd and I see that NOPL Chairman of the board Irvin Mayfield along with the NOPL staff has put together a new and great Initiatives In Our Public Libraries. Of course, I find it great that Irvin is doing bigger things in the N.O. Community Not only because he's a Kennedy Alumnus, Nor because of his fame as a great jazz Trumpet player . But because he has a true heart for the cities youth.

Growing up here in N.O. I've never been to any of our public libraries, At the time much of my resources were at home. Things such as the A to Z encyclopedias plus additional Books for references. even in relation to N.O. This was before i had access to a computer. At the time I took really didnt know how much the library ment to the city itself. After Getting internet Access and finding out about NOPL's Website Nutrias.org, i found that Our Library wasn''t only a place to go read, and check out books. but it is also the place where you could access loads of the cities historical information. it's like a museum of references in words and pictures.

While living in Houston, during the rest of 2005, I spent lots of time at Houston's public Libraries to use the computers. I've never checked out a book. But i did get and still do have A library card. which reminds me A few weeks ago, my sister visited a Library and she said that the Cards are free. It almost prompts me to make a visit to one of the Libraries.

The sad part is that. I've only known of Three locations. which include the little one in St. Bernard. The One between Dillard University and the Cemetery off Orleans, and the one Main Library on Loyola.

Now that I know that their back on track. I'll try to pay a visit sometime.

There are many good things going on here that never get reported because it's overshadowed by Violent crimes in which Nagin say's "It Keeps the New Orleans Brand Fresh". How about the Good News being put on a National front?

It's The Katrina Aniversary two days from now. which will make Two Whole years. We have Progressed a whole lot, but sadly it's been overlooked because of the crime. I see this time, as a great time to SAVE THE CHILDREN though. it's not that hard to do Physically. but Politically, the Strain is THERE. its like "Common Sense" just doesn't work anymore .
