i wanted to cross my section before I came back to N.O. especially crossing my section because I thought it would be cool to rep my section or my Letters when people ask. Instead, I got ONE letter, I wanted them all But I came back to N.O for financial reasons.
After talking to some of the upperclassman in my section they were like "Don't even worry bout it cause u marched and that's all that matters".
Usually when you are crabbing they give you a lecture about how Crossing Benefits you as long as you're in section/band. and well, They're right partially. The day after we got our first letter we ignored our crab brother, Making him feel less welcomed in the section...

The sad part is, It Mattered at the moment, but in the end It doesn't matter to anyone outside of the band. later on i found that 4 of my CB's didn't cross the section Three did in purposely, the other decided to Not cross at the begging of the season.
After looking up how the sections History I guess it doesn't matter. because the section hasn't really been around long, Although the history connects itself back to the origin of the sectional lines. It didn't really holds no weight to the stuff they tell you prior to the getting your letters.
When Oldheads come back They give respect to the section. they don't care what sections name is They only discuss the skill level of the section. they sometimes told stories of their times in the section. but for them. the legacy is within the Section itself not within the Name of The Section
other than that it's all of it is for reputation and pride and somethin' cool to put in your forum signature or webpage ..
Although I didn't finish crossing my section or crabbing .One thing I can say though is that I was a Tuba Player for the Ocean. and forever my CB/ CS's will be my CB/CS's .. and my Section and Section Leaders the same.

You can say "i'm going to be respected", but how would you feel if you were the boss of your own company and you hired a young cat who didn't contribute ISHT to your company but demanded your respect? Respect isn't GIVEN...
That's what a lot of younger cats don't understand today. The "crabbing" process wasn't originally about kicking arse--it was about teaching a NEO the difference between having SELF-PRIDE and having PRIDE WITHIN AN ORGANIZATION (learning how to WORK collectively for a common purpose); learning how to respect each other and what you are a part of; learning DISCIPLINE and humility (learning how to FOLLOW before you can lead). These are lessons that carry over into the REAL world AFTER college. Shidd, I've had personal experiences with crabs who are told by section leaders to "pick their feet up" or "practice your music" or "go home and study and stop hanging around the band room" and they DON'T LISTEN (and curse them out). What are they going to do when their boss demands something from them or gives them critique? Will they curse them out too? Maybe so b/c they don't know the difference between pride and stupidity...
But that's my two cents 2...
Being a Crab, Your Objective is to Not take It Personal
Hazing was Minimal in the Ocean, I had it worse in High School, Hazing was more Verbal than physical. they tell you what to do and you have an Option, but it may cost you your letters
not to expose my section but.....
I had 3 Crab Brothers who took every situation personally, eventually it got them in to some fights. and It wasn't even all that serious, just follow the rules and you'll be okay.
They Also didn't make Band A Priority
Missing Practices, Performances, Sectionals, Without Reason
Sounds like a Reason they SHOULD be given a level of punishment right?.. well how about this...
They chose not to cross the line because they felt disrespected by upperclassman and the upperclassman felt the same way about them. My Other was a loner because nobody could vouch for him due to him not even making the effort to be part of the section.
For Me, Band was a priority and I wasn't on scholorship.I'm not there anymore because I had nowhere to stay, and I couldn't afford to stay in school. Before Leaving. I cried... Seriouisly...I Cried because I wanted to "live up to da dream" so to speak. I felt that I was letting it all go and letting everybody down., but I think I already earned my respect by just keeping my cool...I'm cool with almost everybody who I've met in that band.
I'm The Book.. They didnt care if i was on line posting my whole crab season.. they felt good about what i was doing. Posting all them "inside the band room" clips online and everything was New to them and it made them feel good too!
